Sustainable renovation with KALDEWEI: ZWEI Design uses steel enamel in their own bathroom

KALDEWEI, Ahlen, August 2021 – It wasn’t exactly love at first sight. It was not until Talitha and Michael Bainbridge took a closer look at their future dream home that they fell in love with it. The L-shaped bungalow from the 1970s is now the new home of the designer couple, which they have transformed into a stylish oasis of well-being. The bathroom area played a central role in this.

Talitha and Michael Bainbridge live and work together. They founded their creative company ZWEI Design in order to be able to live out their special passion for sophisticated interior design even better. They develop sophisticated room concepts for their customers together.

Sustainability and resource conservation play a major role for the design experts, both professionally and privately. “For our family home we made a conscious decision to renovate a bungalow and not to build it from scratch. Our approach is to generate less waste, which is a practicable and sensible way of sustainability for us. We have made sure that almost all products that we install in our house are first and foremost high quality and therefore durable and can be easily disposed of or even recycled when removed later,” explains Talitha Bainbridge.

In addition to a wooden floor without plastic, stone tiles, wood and ceramics in the kitchen, the decision was made in the bathroom area to use the 100 percent recyclable material steel-enamel. The family bathroom in particular needed a make-over. We said “Au revoir” to the brown-beige tiles as well as the old shower niche with brown hard plastic doors. Instead, a luxurious and spacious family bathroom should be the result that is not just a means to an end, but rather can also become the highlight of the day. “We wanted a warm and durable design using large tiles with a little structure, a wooden table made of oak, golden and beige accents and high-quality white bathroom objects. The sustainability of the materials we used was very important to us. That is why we chose KALDEWEI for the bathroom objects,” the Bainbridges explain.

The designer couple were immediately impressed by the design of the products, the quality of the steel-enamel material and the manufacturing process. Talitha and Michael Bainbridge decided in favour of two MIENA washbowls and a NEXSYS shower surface in the family bathroom. The space-saving CONO washbasin was used in the small guest bathroom, which impresses with its elegant green.

“Above all, a floor-level shower surface was important to us. For reasons of hygiene, we definitely did not want a tiled shower area, but rather a seamless, easy-care and high-quality surface. It was clear to us that we wanted to design a bathroom that was timelessly beautiful,” explains Michael Bainbridge.

Was all the work and passion in choosing the materials worth it? “All of these factors contribute to the fact that we enjoy our bathroom every day with the greatest pleasure and a clear conscience. After a year of hard work, we are also quite proud of what we have achieved and let family and friends take a look at our bathroom – and occasionally use it too” says Talitha Bainbridge.
