KALDEWEI, Ahlen, June 2021 - KALDEWEI not only ensures that plastic is minimised in sustainable bathrooms with its consistent use of sustainable, 100% recyclable steel enamel. The family company from Ahlen has also been a partner of the WWF since 2017. The collaboration is now taking on a global dimension again for Oceans Day 2021 on 8 June. One of the focal points of the cooperation is the support of the WWF marine protection program, which focuses on the fight against plastic waste in the world’s oceans.
Oceans Day is an initiative proclaimed by the United Nations. “World Oceans Day” has its origins in the 1992 Earth Summit and has been celebrated since 2009. The aim of the day is to achieve global awareness of the current challenges related with the oceans. With its commitment, also on Oceans Day, KALDEWEI would like to underline the importance of the oceans for global food security and the climate.
As a sponsor of the WWF marine protection program, KALDEWEI supports a model project in the Mekong Delta (Vietnam) to combat the causes of plastic waste in the world’s oceans. The aim of the project is to reduce significantly the entry of plastic waste into the sea by setting up a waste management system. With the help of the KALDEWEI sponsorship, a feasibility study could be carried out on the recycling routes for separated recyclable and waste fractions. Building on this, a system for the collection and separation of rubbish at household level has now been set up, in which around 4,500 households are currently participating. By improving waste management in the Mekong Delta, the recycling rate of valuable materials is significantly increased and less plastic ends up in the sea, which also protects vital ecosystems.
